His presentations are illustrated with scenic photographs from around the state. Audience members can participate in entertaining quiz games that reveal little known facts and trivia about these unique properties. DESCRIPTION:On August 22 Merrick State Park will present “Wild Mushrooms” at 7:00p.m. in the Nature Center. Mushrooms are growing everywhere\, but are they edible or maybe NOT! Andi Reisdorf is from the Driftless Folk School and this school is a very well-known educational organization in the Driftless area. This is a beginner-friendly mushroom foraging presentation. You’ll learn fungal biology basics\, mushroom identification techniques\, and practical foraging tips. You will also enjoy hands-on exploration in the woods and search for choice fall edibles like hen of the woods\, lion’s mane\, lobster mushrooms\, chicken of the woods\, chanterelles\, puffball mushrooms\, oyster mushrooms\, and more! Come prepared for off-trail hiking and uneven terrain. As with any foraging class\, the abundance and variety of mushrooms we find in the woods is entirely up to mother nature! Being prepared for uncertainty (and for surprises!) is all part and parcel of wild foraging. Have you ever wondered whether it’s possible to “transplant” the wild mushrooms you find to cultivate at home? The answer is yes! and learn how to turn your wild finds into mushroom spawn to take home. Remember to dress accordingly for a hike into the woods and be sure to bring gloves. This program is sponsored by the Merrick State Park Turtle volunteers and the Friends of Wisconsin State Parks. Donations are always appreciated and you can purchase Shirts\, Caps\, and Tees at each park program which enable us to help sponsor future programs.
